Handel: Messiah with Thomas Primrose and the UAE Choir
The University of East Anglia Choir will be joined by four exceptional young soloists and stylishly accompanied by the inimitable Norwich Baroque, for a large-scale performance of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, on Tuesday 21 April 2015 at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich.
Performers: UEA Choir and Norwich Baroque
Conductor: Tom Primrose
Soloists: Jenny Stafford (Soprano), Tim Morgan (Countertenor), Adam Temple-Smith (Tenor) and Božidar Smiljanić (Bass)
Handel composed Messiah in just four weeks of feverish activity, in the summer of 1741, and the work was first performed to great critical acclaim in the spring of 1742. Since then, it has been performed numerous times and has become a popular part of the choral repertoire. This is particularly true in Great Britain, where for the last two hundred years, regular performances by choirs up and down the country have given it the status of a national treasure.
